MCP connector: use Clav from Claude or ChatGPT
How to connect Claude or ChatGPT to your organization on Clav, what the assistant can do, and how access is controlled.
What is the MCP connector?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard Claude and ChatGPT use to talk to other systems. With the Clav connector, you ask your AI assistant about your organization’s compliance and it answers with the platform’s data: how much is done, what is pending, what each evidence still needs and who is responsible. From the chat, it can also fill in anything that does not need a file.
No token
You sign in with your Clav account, with 2FA and SSO when your organization requires them.
One organization per connection
When you authorize the app, you choose which organization it can reach.
Revocable
Disconnect the app at any time. Access ends on the next call.
Who this guide is for
Any member of an organization who wants to use Clav from Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop or Claude Code) or from ChatGPT.
Before you start
- The AI connector has to be enabled for your organization. The Clav team turns it on, so contact support.
- If your organization requires 2FA, turn on the second factor in your account before connecting. The 2FA guide shows how.
- You need a Claude or ChatGPT account on a plan that allows custom connectors.
Where to find the server URL
In the platform, open Integrations in the side menu, under Others, and choose Claude and ChatGPT. The page has the server URL, with a copy button, and the steps for each app. The URL is:
https://api.clav.tech/mcpConnecting
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
Open Settings, then Connectors. Click Add custom connector, name it Clav, paste the server URL and click Connect.
On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner of the Claude workspace adds the connector first. Then each person connects their own Clav account.
ChatGPT
Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors. In Advanced settings, turn on developer mode. Click Create, name it Clav, paste the server URL and choose OAuth as the authentication.
Claude Code
Run this in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http clav https://api.clav.tech/mcpThen, in Claude Code, run /mcp, select clav and sign in.
Sign in and authorize
The app opens the Clav sign-in page, and you sign in as usual. If you belong to more than one organization with the connector enabled, pick the one the app will reach. Last, allow access on the consent page.
To use another organization, connect again and pick it.
What the assistant can do
The assistant reads what you see in the platform, with the permissions of your role in the organization:
- Progress for the organization, each framework and each control, with the same percentages as the screens.
- Frameworks, controls, requirements and evidences, with status, due dates, owners and recent activity.
- One evidence in detail: what the framework expects, the norm that requires it, the checklist, the information fields and the latest uploaded file.
- The link that opens an evidence in the platform.
- A temporary link to download an evidence file.
It can also fill in an evidence’s information fields, attach an external link (Google Drive, SharePoint) as an evidence and duplicate an annotation list evidence.
Before changing anything, the assistant tells you what will change and waits for your confirmation. Claude and ChatGPT also ask for your approval before running a change.
Files
To upload a document, ask the assistant for the evidence link, open the page in Clav and upload it there. Then tell the assistant, and it checks that the new version arrived.
To download, ask the assistant for the file. It returns a link that expires in a few minutes and is only for you to click: the assistant does not read the file’s contents. Every link it creates goes into the organization’s download history, the same as a download from the screen.
End-to-end encrypted files
If your organization uses end-to-end encryption, files are only decrypted in your browser. The connector does not create download links for them. In that case, the assistant gives you the evidence link and you download from the platform.
Security and control
- Clav only receives the calls the assistant makes. The conversation and your questions stay in Claude or ChatGPT.
- What the assistant reads is processed by the app’s provider, under your account with them.
- Every call checks your connection again, along with your membership and whether the connector is still enabled. If you leave the organization or the connector is turned off, access ends on the next call.
- Administrators see the calls from the last 90 days in Organization, Settings, in the AI connector activity panel.
Disconnecting
In Settings, open Connected apps and disconnect the app. Access ends right away.
Frequently asked questions
My organization does not show up when I pick one
An organization only shows up when the AI connector is enabled for it and, if it requires 2FA, once you have turned on the second factor. Check both and connect again.
Can the assistant create or delete evidences?
No. Evidences, controls and requirements are created and removed in the platform.
Can the certification firm's auditors use the connector?
No. Certification firm users have their own certification portal.
